Helping volunteers create a stronger experience for every member

A Stronger Foothold

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Mountaineering Club has brought together climbers, mountaineers and adventurers from across the Armed Forces community for decades.

Built around challenge, development and shared experience, the club has grown into a community of more than 500 members spanning everything from sport climbing to traditional mountaineering.

As that community continued to expand, the club wanted to make sure members still felt connected, supported and engaged at every stage of their journey, while also creating a more sustainable experience for the volunteers behind it.

Creating a more connected experience from the very beginning

As membership continued to grow, the club wanted the experience of joining and being part of the organisation to feel more responsive and better connected.

Volunteers were supporting members across multiple locations, coordinating events around the country and managing communication across a geographically dispersed community. Over time, keeping everything aligned and consistent was becoming increasingly difficult.

The organisation wanted members to feel informed, supported and connected much earlier in their journey with the club, while also making it easier for volunteers to communicate clearly and confidently across the wider community.

That shift helped create a smoother experience for both new and existing members, while reducing the amount of time volunteers needed to spend manually coordinating information behind the scenes.

Rather than feeling weighed down by the day-to-day pressure of keeping everything aligned manually, volunteers had more space to focus

Giving volunteers more capacity to focus on the club itself

As communication and visibility improved across the organisation, volunteers were able to spend less time managing repetitive coordination and more time focused on the experiences and opportunities that make the club unique.

That additional capacity became especially valuable when organising mountaineering meets and activities across multiple locations, helping the wider club community stay informed, engaged and connected.

Rather than feeling weighed down by the day-to-day pressure of keeping everything aligned manually, volunteers had more space to focus on supporting members and developing the club community itself.

Supporting the next chapter of the club community

For the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Mountaineering Club, the biggest impact has been creating an environment where both members and volunteers feel better supported as the organisation continues to grow.

Communication feels clearer, the overall experience feels more connected, and volunteers have greater confidence supporting a growing membership community without losing the sense of camaraderie and shared purpose that has defined the club for generations.
